The story
A company turned a year older and invited 500 people in costume to an old academy of fine arts in the Gothic Quarter. We made the first half of the evening: a game that turned strangers into partners, partners into teams, and teams into makers.
Nobody needed a skill to play. You flipped a coin, you won or you didn't, and either way you walked away with something to spend.
How it played
Heads or Tails for coins, teams by the colour of your badge, coins for household things in eight Supply Shops. Then forty minutes in the courtyard to turn it all into one creature, give it a character and show it to everyone.
The slides the game ran on
Your turn
The Supply Shop
You have a few coins to start. Buy household things, drag them into place and build your own creature. Out of coins? Flip for more, or look for the coins left around this page.
Build your Art-Manyfest
Pick something from the shop to start your creature.
Photographs
Before the doorsThe courtyard, early evening
A briefing under the statues, a crew in black tees with the championship sunburst on the back, and a desk of lanyards in the team colours. Every badge already knew which team its guest would join.

Everyone in characterArrival
Guests came in costume and the courtyard met them halfway: tall striped cones, a checkered carpet down the grand stairs and characters who never stepped out of their roles.

On the big screenThe championship
A host on stage, the slides behind her and a sound for the start and the end of each round. Five hundred people flipping coins at once is louder than you think.

The courtyard filled upForty minutes to build
Boxes, cones and pool noodles became a pink creature with horns, a red dragon, a sky-blue box with one eye. Each team presented its Art-Manyfest to the whole courtyard.

Then the partyThe second half
When the game was done the hall went pink and the festival carried on into the night.
